Governor Kim Reynolds and Lt. Governor Gregg declared January as Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month in Iowa. The First Annual Iowa Freedom Summit was a success. Find out about our two-year list of goals for 2020-2021. Eleven more foreign students from Brazil and Chile have filed a federal lawsuit accusing a northwest Iowa community college, a recruitment company, a pet food manufacturer and a packaging company of human trafficking and involuntary servitude. The Siouxland Coalition Against Human Trafficking kicks off their campaign to “End the Demand.”

During the celebration event at the Iowa State Capitol Building, five Outstanding Anti-Trafficking Service Awards were presented. Iowa Plans for January 2021  Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month

We will host the public signing of a proclamation by Governor Kim Reynolds designating January 2021 as Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Ask your city council to adopt a local proclamation declaring January 2021 as Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. The Iowa Office to Combat Human Trafficking released their 2020 Annual Progress Report. The Siouxland Coalition Against Human Trafficking plans to launch an education campaign to address the need to reveal buyers as the fuel for sex trafficking.

Tomorrow is #GivingTuesday and Other Anti-Trafficking News

Please join us in the spirit of giving. After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we will be celebrating #GivingTuesday. Save the date for the Iowa Freedom Summit on January 12, 2021. The summit will educate the public about human trafficking right here in Iowa and what services are available in the state. On November 19th, our very own Teresa Davidson was one of the presenters on a Youtube live broadcast that featured the just released first annual report from the Public-Private Partnership National Advisory Council on which she serves. The 57 page report has just been published on the website of the US State Department.

Fall Updates from Five Survivor Service Providers and 11 New Resources

Lila Mae’s House and Dorothy’s House have both reopened after being closed during the Covid-19 statewide lockdown. Friends of the Family received a 3 year grant from the Department of Justice to provide rapid rehousing support to survivors of human trafficking. Read an update from Chains Interrupted and Cedar Rapids Anti-Trafficking Coalition about their education projects, advocacy efforts, and survivor support.
