Dorothy’s House is the first complete continuum of care in Iowa for survivors of human trafficking, exploitation, and prostitution. Located in Des Moines, Iowa, we accept statewide referrals and provide comprehensive programs designed to support women (18+) on their journey to healing and independence.
Our Programs:
DH Pathways – Our Crisis Intervention program provides immediate safety for women in need. We offer secure shelter and meet urgent needs such as food, clothing, medication, mental health services, and much more. We also help women develop a plan for their next steps, whether that means entering a treatment program, reuniting with family, relocation, or joining a long-term support program—including our own.
DH Recovery – A long-term residential housing program for women committed to sobriety and personal growth. This program helps participants reframe their beliefs about life and the world around them, fostering healthier perspectives and stronger futures. Our holistic approach addresses all aspects of a woman’s life, empowering her with the skills needed for independent living.
DH Front Porch – Upon completing the DH Recovery program, women can transition into long-term housing. This phase provides a fully furnished two-bedroom apartment where participants can practice independent living while continuing to receive support under the Dorothy’s House umbrella.
DH Empowerment Exchange – Our aftercare support program for graduates and survivors in the community. We foster connection through regular gatherings that provide guidance, peer support, and shared experiences. Life continues to bring challenges, and ongoing resources and community are essential for long-term success.
At Dorothy’s House, we are dedicated to creating a safe, nurturing environment where survivors can rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
